Welcome to Spectrum Martial Arts, home of Sian Combat Karate and W.A.R Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu! We are Minot, North Dakota's only black belt certified full-contact Karate school with lineage in Kyokushin Kai and Goju Ryu, with an instructor also certified to instruct Krav Maga and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. In addition, we are North Dakota's ONLY Straight Blast Gym (SBG) affiliated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school. Our classes are designed to teach students how to fight in three ranges of combat: Stand-up, Clinch, and Ground.
Our head instructor, Mr. Michael Sian, also continues his training as a student in the Martial Arts. He travels to both his Karate and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructors for training and mentoring on a regular basis. Mr. Sian encourages people to come and try a class for free!

Our coaches
Head Instructor | Karate, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Striking Foundations
Mr. Sian is a retired military officer and federal law enforcement Special Agent with over two decades of experience in counter-terrorism operations worldwide, with combat tours in Desert Storm, Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq (4 times), and Afghanistan (3 times). He is a board member and senior instructor for the Intercept – Stabilize –Resolve (ISR) Matrix, a certified Advanced Military/Law Enforcement Krav Maga Instructor with Krav Maga Worldwide, and holds a basic certification in Pressure Point Control Tactics (PPCT TM).

Mr. Hunter Sian began his karate training in 2007 at the age of 5, under Coach Michael Sian. He is currently a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Full Contact Karate and a Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Hunter currently trains in Karate, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Muay Thai Kickboxing.

Mr. Tyler Chronister began his martial arts training in 2016 under Coach Michael Sian. He earned his Purple Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2022 (awarded by Black Belt Coach Mike Sian, SBG). Tyler currently trains Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under SMA Head Instructor Michael Sian.

Mr. Paul Deibert began his martial arts training in 2017 under Coach Michael Sian. He earned his Purple Belt in Karate in 2020 and his Purple Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2022 (awarded by Black Belt Coach Mike Sian, SBG). Coach Paul currently trains Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under SMA Head Instructor Michael Sian.

Mr. Jared Gebhardt began his martial arts training in 2018 under Coach Michael Sian. He is currently a 1st Degree Black Belt in Full Contact Karate and and a Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Jared currently trains in Karate, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Boxing.

Colby Davis is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu blue belt under Mike Sian. He began his training in Lajes Field, Portugal (2011) under Aaron Cardona. Then trained at Anchorage BJJ under Coach Ryder Spadafore for a short period of time. Once in Minot, ND he focused his passion on the art of BJJ and earned his blue belt in February of 2021. He will be continuing his training and beginning his coaching lineage in Oklahoma City, OK, taking the W.A.R. program and SBG foundations with him.
